While the yields were low in 2015 following several years of drought, the fruit was outstanding. Elevated above the fog line, the grapes grown in the Cordes Vineyard benefited from a warm summer, which led to sugar levels rising, and cool afternoon, nighttime breezes, which retained a high acidity.
The high-elevation Cordes Vineyard is in the midst of the well-respected Stagecoach Vineyard. This area is known for its volcanic, rocky and well-drained soils that produce small, concentrated grape clusters.
This fruit-driven Cabernet offers lovely, soft aromas of black cherry, blackberry and boysenberry with hints of tobacco and licorice. The lush fruit flavors are layered with notes of coffee, chocolate and cinnamon. Delicate tannins lead to the long, evolving finish. A blending of oak barrel and stainless steel fermentations result in a perfectly balanced, elegant and complex wine. Aged 30 months on 40% new French oak, this wine is ready to drink now and will also age gracefully.
Jamieson Ranch Vineyards pays homage to the rich ranching tradition of the Napa Valley through our wines. When horses were used to draw a wagon or stagecoach, the drivers had to manage at least four reins-in-hand. Sometimes, one driver had to manage all four reins. To honor those superstar drivers, we went out and found one of the most legendary sites, Cordes Vineyard on Atlas Peak, to make this very special wine.
