Jamieson Ranch Vineyards pays homage to the rich ranching tradition of the Napa Valley through our wines. When horses were used to draw a wagon or stagecoach, the drivers had to manage at least four reins-in-hand. Sometimes, one driver had to manage all four reins. To honor those superstar drivers, we went out and found one of the most legendary sites, Cordes Vineyard on Atlas Peak, to make this very special wine.
The high-elevation Cordes Vineyard is in the midst of the well-respected Stagecoach Vineyard. This area is known for its volcanic, rocky and well-drained soils that produce small, concentrated grape clusters.
"While vintage and climate can stomp all over a wine’s terroir, this is not the case for our 2014 Four Reins Cordes Vineyard Atlas Peak Cabernet Sauvignon," says Winemaker Linda Trotta. "Despite the draught in California, there was nice rain in the Spring, which gave a burst of energy to the vines. The weather throughout the summer and fall was beautiful and led into a successful harvest."
This fruit-driven Cabernet offers lovely, soft aromas of black cherry, blackberry and boysenberry with hints of tobacco and licorice. The lush fruit flavors are layered with notes of coffee, chocolate and cinnamon. Delicate tannins lead to the long, evolving finish. A blending of oak barrel and stainless steel fermentations result in a perfectly balanced, elegant and complex wine. Aged 18 months on 40% new French oak, this wine is ready to drink now and will also age gracefully.
