During the frontier era, the term four-in-hand referred to a team of four horses rigged and driven by a single coachman. Requiring fine horsemanship skills, driving with four reins in one hand allowed a travel companion to sit alongside the driver to keep watch over precious stagecoach cargo.
Our single vineyard Four-Reins Cabernet Sauvignon displays an equally skilled reining in of the finest fruit culled from Cordes Vineyard on Atlas Peak, 1750 ft above sea level. Historically rich in silver ore, this steep mountain site, with its Clone 4 rootstock, Hambright soil and rock outcrop, produces small, flavorful berries.
